  1. Make ready 1.5 cup rice
  2. Make ready 0.75 cup moong dal
  3. Prepare 1-1.5 cups jaggery
  4. Get 4 cups milk

  7. Take 4 tbsp ghee
  8. Get Cashews & raisins
  9. Make ready 4 tsp shredded coconut

Sakkarai Pongal or Sweet Pongal is a speciality of Southern part of India. Made during the festival of Sankranthi and Pongalm its also a very popular breakfast. It is made with rice, daal and jaggery. Pongal is the simplest of desserts.

Steps to make Sweet pongal:
  1. In a cooker take 2 tsp of ghee, add soaked moong dal(for 15 to 20 mins). Sauté for awhile until it turns aromatic. Now add rice and sauté again.
  2. Add 3 cups of milk and 4 cups of water and pressure cook for 2 whistles.
  3. In another pan take 1.5 cups jaggery and add water. Let it boil to get a jaggery syrup
  4. Once the cooked rice and dal is cooled down, add jaggery syrup. Also add additional cup of milk and boil in simmer. Also add saffron threads soaked in milk.
  5. Add roasted cashews and raisins to it along with cardamom powder. Add additional ghee (2 to 3tbsp). Also add roasted coconut and mix well.
  6. Serve it hot with ghee.
